Three first-time-on-45 issues, straight off the reels and into your crate. 1000 copies each.
Syl Johnson: Tripping On Your Love b/w Foxy Brown
After parting ways with Memphis soul powerhouse Hi Records in 1979, Syl Johnson reanimated his dormant Shama imprint for another run at the charts. “Disco came in, my repertoire went down, down, down," Syl recalled. A string of tepid blues numbers followed, but by the end of the decade he'd found a new stroke: boogie. 1988's Foxy Brown album arrived to little fanfare, and nearly forty years later is a tough pull even its native Chicago. Our 2026 shrinkflation reissue combines the title track and the album opener "Tripping On Your Love" for club use on the inconvenient 7" format, housed in a full color sleeve to keep the trainspotters guessing.
Sprit of Brotherhood: Go For It b/w Sprit of Brotherhood
Following a string of successful Blacksploitation soundtracks (Shaft In Africa, Brother on the Run) uber producer/arranger/maestro Johnny Pate bankrolled a one-off session to combat the overwhelming pessimism seeping into the American experiment. "Go For It" combines disco hustle and Pate's signature strings while the self-titled flip employees synth squiggles and acrostics for dance floor dominance.
Ujima: Maybe b/w All I Want It You
Between their early-'70s Epic Records run and name change to Anglo Saxon Brown for Atlantic in 1976, Richmond, Virginia's Ujima tracked an unreleased album of modern soul emotion sensors. Shelved for five decades, Numero has unearthed these recordings, pairing infectious floor filler "Maybe" with mid-tempo ballad "All I Want Is You."
Pre-order: Release date is March 20th - Orders will begin shipping in late FebruaryÂ
